Hey, I’m Sam!

I have been a portrait photographer for over 16 years now, as well as freelancing as a retoucher in that time. I've worked for a variety of brands including New Look, the ITV Press Office and Conde Nast Online and shot for various publications.

I was lucky enough to work on the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows films assisting the stills photographer, as well as working on many sets since so have a lot of experience working with talent.

I am relaxed and friendly. I bring warmth into my shoots and have the ability for people to feel as though they’ve known me for years, I think the comfortable vibe means people let their guards down with me.

FUn facts...

• Dogs are my favourite thing and my family dog, Harry, is a spaniel and the love of my life (as well as the hubby of course!)

• Tacos are my absolute fave food. And pasta. In copious amounts.
  

• I live in jeans and t-shirts. I’d love to rock up to a shoot in a suit but that’s just not me!
  

WHAt’s this all about?!

An editorial style feels more of a cinematic portrait. Not a standard headshot or a bland white backdrop. These are dynamic, fun and captivating shots of you for your portfolio, for publicity, for content and to show potential casting directors your sparkle.

These images are so much more than a mugshot of your face - they express a story. They show your versatility as a performer, presenting you for a variety of roles you can seamlessly inhabit as well as showcasing your own personality and charm as a entertainer.

You can still use the images as headshots but these are a cut above a regular portrait session, so be prepared for a fun shoot, a lot of gorgeous images to choose from and a load of variety from location to outfits to poses.

Shooting with me will feel like meeting an old friend, I genuinely love this job and make sure every experience feels warm, friendly and gives you a big hit of confidence.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

I photograph you in multiple outfits and in multiple locations and it’s possible to include studio time too.

It's really important to me that you get lots of variety in your gallery so I like to include at least two different locations to evoke different feels within your shoot.

We have a joint moodboard on Pinterest going in to the shoot to have a shared vision of what we are going to create and the vibes you’re looking for so you feel seen and heard.

We spend at least two hours shooting, it’s all super relaxed and fun, we have a speaker for music wherever we are and we go through a wide range of poses and looks in that time, mixing up different outfits, different lighting and using props if it works.

Then it’s over to me to work on your gallery and edit your images to the highest standard, hold tight it’s worth the wait. Within 4 weeks of your shoot you will receive a big beautiful gallery on a private link for you to download and enjoy.

I offer two different packages to best suit your needs, add-ons are also available.

Devoting time and energy into your shoot is really important to me and I love for it to be a collaboration between us both. The longer the shoot the more variety we can achieve so I don’t offer quick ‘bish bash bosh’ shoots. I guide you with posing and what to do in front of the camera to make you as comfy as possible, as well as going through your outfits with you and suggesting the best locations for what you want to achieve. In Dorset we are blessed with beaches, forests, and a whole host of special spots to achieve huge diversity in your gallery.

It’s always great to shoot on location, it’s also possible to include studio time within your shoot to vary up the looks or have your session solely in the studio.

Where are you based?

I am primarily in Bournemouth, Dorset. A two hour train ride direct from Waterloo. Sometimes I offer content days in London and if you have a particular place you’d like to shoot then this is sometimes doable and will just incur a travel charge.

What’s the difference between packages?

Your Classic package is a two hour shoot with 6 images included. This is perfect for starting a portfolio. The Unlimited includes your full gallery and is a longer shoot of 3 hours so gives you a full portfolio, more variety and saves you having to narrow down!

Do I need a make up artist?

I highly recommend one! It’s so important that you feel your best self, so if you’re confident doing your own make up that’s fine but there’s nothing better than a pro doing it and giving you the ultimate confidence boost. Guys they can help you too with grooming and any make up you might want.

Can I change my hair/make up/beard half way through?

This is possible if we have studio time as we will have electrical points but on location we can’t often accommodate this. If you want to bring a trimmer for your beard then make sure it’s charged!

Can I see all the images?

In short, no! Quality is far more important than quantity and I put the most flattering images in your gallery and don’t show you any that might not show your best self, there will be plenty of gorgeous ones where you aren’t half blinking, trust me!

What are the image usage terms?

Images are licensed for usage in your personal portfolios on Spotlight, IMDB, Agent’s websites, personal websites (inc social media accounts) and in-house production materials (theatre programmes & websites). All images must be credited to Samantha Davis Stills when used.

First and foremost you lovely people, I know that my style and approach isn’t for everyone. What I do make sure above all else is that you have a really enjoyable experience whilst getting some gorgeous pictures you will be proud of!

If you’d like to go ahead then this is my booking procedure:

• Get in touch to reserve your shoot date.
  

• I need a booking form to be signed by yourselves.

• I ask for a non-refundable booking fee to be paid to confirm your session and my services. This is £75 and is deducted from the total amount due. You receive a receipt on collection of this.

Once I have received both, then you officially have booked your portrait session! WOOP!

The rest of the payment is due on shoot day via bank transfer, I do not charge VAT so there are no hidden extras. Cancellation within 24 hours will result in a 50% cancellation fee.
